It was 5am when we got in the canoe that would take us to the Heath River Clay lick. After a 20 min ride we were anchored and eating breakfast waiting for the birds.

At first some of the smaller green parrots came down, but they were constantly being chased of by a pair of hawks.  Over and over again they would advance than retreat.  We waited about an hour and a half before the giant Red and Green Macaws began to slowly fill the tress about the clay lick.

Although much bigger than the hawks they too would advance and retreat until there were enough of them to run off any threat. In total there were ~60 Macaws feeding at the lick over the next 2 hours.
